Howdy folks,
Looking for some insight and advice. Just brought home an ‘84 CJ7 . AMC 258 i6 / 4.2l straight six. Changed the plugs, wires, air and fuel filters. She’s got a high performance cap, and I can’t afford a new one right now. In first and second, if I hit the gas remotely hard, she bogs down, almost stalls. It’s got a rebuilt two barrel carb, looks pretty clean; fuel pump looks close to new as well. Any suggestions on what the problem might be? Thanks!

Sounds like it's starving for fuel. Could be as simple as a partially blocked fuel filter or a restriction in the fuel line.
I had similar problems with my Jeep and ended up replacing all the fuel line from the tank to fuel pump.

Or the acceleration squirter, if your carb has one.

This is my guess as well. If it runs smooth at a constant, fairly high RPM, this is a very good thing to check.

Could be the wrong jets as well. How many cfms is ur carb?
