Hello, I am looking for a detailed picture(s) of a smooth running CJ7 engine with a carter carb and Nutter bypass.

Just purchased a (very rough) '83 CJ7 with a AMC 258 i6 / 4.2l , Carter Carb, automatic, electric choke, Nutter Bypass.
  1. Need to install vacuum lines...correctly
  2. I have a 3 port CTO valve...I think it should be a 2 port
  3. I don't see the EGR anywhere, I need a picture of that also? or do I even need it?
  4. I don't have a stepper motor or needles, just a block off plate
  5. Both of my idle screws are all the way in, but in or out...no difference! barely idles, idle adjust is at its max turns in
  6. Smoke and Oil comes out of the air breather hose?
I can send pics, but I am looking for pics of a proper running CJ7 with good shots of the vacuum lines.

Thanks for the Time!

I would honestly chuck the carter for a mc2100.. Or a cough cough webber. There's a guy on here that sells a 2100 and adapter plate combo.. He uses the name gronk performance. Are you looking to keep all the emissions and evap canister? With out all the emissions :dung: you only need a vac line for the dizzy, brake booster and PVC valve.

Speaking of PVC valve it goes from the rear hole in your valve cover to the big nipple on the back of the carb or just under the carb on the intake. Good luck with your project.

I am looking for proper placement of the vacuum lines, that is why I need a picture, plus all of the other stuff in my questions.

1. See above pic :chug:
2. From the diagram, it looks like you should have a 3 port CTO.
3. EGR Valve is bolted on the exhaust manifold, if you're looking for stock, you should have one, any parts store (NAPA, Advance, etc) should carry them, probably not in stock, but should be able to get you one.
4. Sorry, I'm no good with Carter carbs
5. #4 again
6. Air breather hose? The hose from the PCV vavle?

As far as the Nutter Bypass, I don't think you would need it on an 83. I've always thought that they didn't run the ignition through the computer until 84.

My 81 is pretty much all stock. No Nutter though. 83 was the first year for the computer. I can look at my 83 Limited and get you some pics of that as well but it has a Yj Carter on it I believe.

If you want I'll start taking some pics and post them tomorrow.

My '80 had a computer, don't have a clue as to what it did, it was attached to nothing.

Wasnt stock. Probably why it was attached to nothing. :)

I also stand corrected, my jeep had a GM 151 in it not the AMC 258 i6 / 4.2l and it absolutely was stock. The computer parts including the carb. were removed there for not stock.
