As most of you know, when rear brake drums are pulled apart, parts get lost. The PO of my jeep obviously had a problem with this, having lost many parts. I have been able to track all of them down except one. There is an oval shaped spring that i believe is part of the parking brake. Can anyone help me out with tracking one down or attaining one? Its the last thing i need for my beloved cj to roll down the street again

Hmm, just about every hardware kit I ever bought came with the oval parking brake lever springs. Did you purchase a kit or individual parts? Unfortunately I just tossed a bunch of old loose brake hardware I had laying around. I'll look through my junk box for you anyway. ;)

BTW, if you want to drive the CJ, you can, just pull the PB lever and it won effect your stopping brakes at all.

I didnt need the bulk of parts, just a few individuals on each side so i did not buy a whole kit. looking back now i probably should have tho

Since brakes are your only lifeline between you and slowing down that CJ, I always put a new hardware kit on when I do brakes - for $6 a wheel it is cheap insurance. ;)

Where could i find a hardware kit for 6 bucks? I checked on kits from my local auto parts stores and none of them came with the spring because "its not part of the brake", its part of the emergency brake, they said. And the kits im seeing on line are like 20+ a piece. I would definately buy new kits for only 6 bucks

I have a really good relationship with the guys at one oreillys becuase im in there all the time because i cant seem to keep my 4x4 truck out of the mud. I had them pull up a couple brake rebuild kits for me and none of them had that spring, but i got the part number and information from the link you found for me and im heading up there now to hopefully get me some on the way. Thank you so much for all the help!

You are welcome... Those of us who own 30 year old vehicles need to look out for each other... :)

Amen to that one. The part is on the way, will be here around 2:45. Thanks again for the help
