Just bought my first jeep in the last 30 years, a 76 CJ7 last fall and after a nasty winter here in New England it's time to get her ready for the beach.

I have some brake issues and noticed that the brake lines from the master run from the front of the master to the front brakes, and from the rear to the rear brakes.

I've been a mechanic for 50 some odd years and don't think I've ever seen that before, most are setup with the front feeding the rears and the rear feeding the fronts, although I haven't played with anything with 4 wheel manual drums in years, does anyone have a similar CJ they can look at to verify this.

The lines run directly from the master cylinder to the brakes? On the 76 they should go through a combination valve on the frame before going to the actual brakes.

Not the original combination valve:

The mounting plate for the original valve is just above the new one.

pretty picture, but doesn't answer the question, does the front of the master feed the front or the rear brakes?

The front feeds the rear.

Obviously too late for you, but with MANUAL brakes, DRUM/DRUM, my '77 has front to front, rear to rear also. the different sized fittings leads me to believe that it is correct.
