I have a 1982 CJ5 that i just purchased and it seems to have a leak somewhere in the brake line. The problem is that I cannot find it. The tires are clean and I don't see any signs of a leak. Does anyone know of a "trick area" where these things happen. Thanks.

did you look at the proportioning valve?? drivers side inside frame rail near the clutch pivot arm.

Its possible that it is leaking in the wheel cylinders on the back, and just hasn't leaked enough for it to start dripping out of the drum yet.
Another place to look is the master cylinder itself, look for fluid on the floor under the brake pedal.
Do you have power brakes?

Thanks. I cleaned the :dung: out of the cylinder it and it appears that it may be the gasket. I filled it but the brake light is still on. Any suggestions. This is my first Jeep.

when you say brake light are you speaking about the tail lights or the brake light on the dash?? the tail lights are controlled by a contact switch under the dash that makes contact with the brake peddle. the dash brake light is controlled by the switch in the proportioning valve, these will sometimes malfunction and stay on.

what gasket?? if it is leaking at the master cylinder it is time for a new master cylinder.
