The brakes have always been spongy they work but not good. I have changed every part there is, the master cylinder twice, and all the parts in the back wheels even the springs are new. We have taken off the disc brakes in the front and they were fine. We bled the master cylinder before installing it and bled all the brakes for the hundredth time. The only thing I can think of now is the box that all the lines go into and out of. I don't know what it is called. Has anyone had spongy brakes?

Thanks

I just went through the same thing with my CJ5 . It ended up being that the front caliper bleeder was lower that the top of the piston. The calipers had to be taken off and rotated until the bleeder was above the piston or pointing sraight up.

We had just re-built the front end and changed the ball joints so that could be the problem. However I don't understand about the bleeders on the calipers and what you had to turn.

the litls box that all the lines go into is the proportioning valve. It' task in life is to apply different pressure to drum brakes(rear) and disk brakes(front). these things do malfunction and can definitely make stopping an adventure. :D

Thanks for the pictures, I see now what you mean the bleeder on ours is parallel with the ground not at the top. The jeep isn't here right now but tomorrow I will see how that turns, when putting them back on I don't remember them being able to turn. I will get back when I see what happens.

Thanks man

I am also going to change the proportioning valve so that it is new as well.
