It may sound stupid but when I am backing down a hill I usually have it in gear with the clutch depressed
Maybe I'm screwed up in my thinking?
It's a terrible idea.......
If you're in reverse and low range, and you let the Jeep go fast enough,
you'll explode the clutch disc by means of centrifugal force.
Forwards or backwards, never disengage the clutch with the Transmission in gear
while descending any hill.
It can be a very costly lesson.
