I had several people tell me that I had the green jeep with the broken tail light. I'd pull the tail light lens and all the bulbs were working as they should. Frustrated I'd replace the lens. Ten someone else would mention the broken light. I was sure it was a comes and goes bad connection somewhere, even though I inspected and repaired all bad spots before the CJ was registered. Then one night I was working with a broken marker light, I actually pulled the wires out while removing the gas tank. When done I flicked on the lights and tested the flashers, stop and running lights. Sure enough when doing my walk around the broken light was there for all to see. But, it wasn't broken at all ...... the lens was upside down! The clear back up light lens was at the bottom, it made the lens look broken. Nobody specified that the LENS was broken so I naturally thought it was a broken bulb. Errr, I had to laugh at myself for that.

Lately I've grown weary of people's vague problem descriptions and my subsequent chasing of bunnies down rattlesnake holes.

Reminds me of this

I almost turned mine around. During the build up to my CJ purchase I was watching a lot of Jeep videos on youtube, mostly JKs. When I first got my CJ, I was convinced the tail lights were on upside-down. Turns out, JKs are the ones who are different.

I kicked myself around some for this. After all it's so obvious, how could I make this mistake .... not only once, but every time I checked the bulbs. It could be worse. The PO had the clear window in the tail light for the license plate upside down and on the wrong side. The tail lights needed to swap sides and turned to put them in the right place. .... of course, then I put the lens on upside down.
