1985 Jeep CJ7 Renegade- IL6 -Mopar FI -Tremec 5 speed- Acme hard top- pretty much stock.
After looking for many months and walking away from MANY CJ7 's that were pretty much rust buckets or very Jeepified (crawlers), I found a very clean stock one just a few minutes from my home. It's got the original stripes and paint scheme (Orange), but no Renegade decal. It looks it's age, but NO RUST! And it looks like the owner took very good care of it and knows it cuz he didn't budge too much on his price.
The problem I see currently is that the sucker bounces too much. He said that it only needs shocks, so that's what I'll do first. It's not lifted , so stock shocks will be bought.
I wanna put a stereo in it too, and possibly a Toughy box. What catalog do you guys use for this kind of stuff? I fugure there's gotta be a Jeep parts catalog that's pretty decent on prices.
Anyway, looking to have some fun with this!
I'll post pics tomorrow.

I have had great luck using amazon. I will usually google the parts I'm looking for to price shop but always end up with amazon, most of there off road stuff comes from 4x4 shops. I also have used baseline 4x4. The lady's name Is sandy and they sell a lot of products through amazon. If I find a part cheaper, I email it to her and 90% of the time she beats it. I think by sticking with one place for a lot of parts, they will take care of you.

Good luck with the new jeep!!!!

You can also check out our online sponsors above. You get discounts :D

Thanks for the info Jake. I see that you're in the Walnut Creek area, so that's maybe two hours from me in Santa Rosa.
Eventually, I plan to take this off road but not crawling, but I don't know where yet. I heard Cobb mountain is one of the spots.
Jr., thanks too. Sac is a couple of hours away too. I see alot of Jeeps around (CJ style), so is there a wave or something?
I'm hoping to get pics today after work. I'm happy to have another hobby again. My first was my '65 Sting Ray, then my 2001 Harley, but I got burnt out from those. I like this toy now!

I rushed a thermostat housing last week from 4wd hardware and it was right on time. Their shipping was really reasonable as well. I just ordered some parts from Quadratec because they had a few I needed that 4wd didn't have at the time. Quadratec has a great selection, but I thought their shipping rates were on the high side.

Just a wave, or a CB / PA speaker greetings... Although I almost got in a little trouble over that... but that's another story. :D

I noticed when started driving jeep around, a lot of little hotties in newer jeeps love to wave ;)

And some don't... But that just means they're jealous

I have a CB radio in my '81 Airstream motorhome, but it doesn't work. I've never really used one before. What's a good one for Jeeping? I've heard Cobra is mostly the one everyone gets. Is that true? I wouldn't know how to use one though.
Going out to get pics now.

This is what I got... Only wanted a good one for on the trail talking to the others in my group.

FRYS.com | UNIDEN

It's very simple and operates good...

The cobras are a great CB, but have a lot more settings to get wrong

I also got:

http://www.frys.com/product/3141700?site=sr:SEARCH:MAIN_RSLT_PG

One of these (not sure if exact one) http://www.frys.com/product/3142160?site=sr:SEARCH:MAIN_RSLT_PG

And the cable... http://www.frys.com/product/3142270?site=sr:SEARCH:MAIN_RSLT_PG

Now you said you have one that doesnt work? I'd try rewiring it a little. Does it turn on and just not send / receive? or just doesn't come on?

Also would need external speaker for PA (yelling at dumb :censored:es on the road... etc)

Start a new thread, and we'll see if we can trouble shoot yours.

You can look at the reviews for electronics at Newegg.com too

Pricing looks good. Where did you mount yours? The motorhome one will stay with the rig, so for now I won't trouble shoot it since I'm having a blast with the CJ. Should I start a new thread about CB mounting locations? I don't know if it's a dumb question to start a new one though.
My visors semm to be the stock shaped ones, yet when I open them, they hit the rear view mirror. Where is the mirror supposed to be located on the windshield? It may be aftermarket. How wide should that mirror be?
Thanks for all the help.

Actually this is your thread, so I suppose we can go to whatever you want :D

I will take some pics tonight, but the Mounting bracket on mine was welded to my spare tire / cargo rack on the back of my jeep, thhere are pleanty of options though...

You could get something like this for what i was showing you:

http://www.frys.com/product/3142210?site=sr:SEARCH:MAIN_RSLT_PG

Or depending on your fab skills, you could make your own... Not to expensive to buy though

You can't see them very good in this photo, but my Uncle and I both have mounted center of rear of jeeps...

IH17.webp

I'll try to remember to take better pics tonight, though may not post them until Monday, trying to get rig ready to go out to Kibers, CA again this weekend for some trail riding...

As for your mirror question, would be much help myself, mine is quite a bit older than yours, and there are no "visors" on mine  I can give you a measurment if you'd like, but probably wont help you. Can you unhook inside portion, bend over your head and tuck under the mirror? If not, I would keep the mirror wherever is comfortable for you and either customize the visors, or try to find some smaller ones?
