own a Jeep CJ: Completed

Finally got her spark hot and in the right place and was able to take her for a nice smooth ride around the block this evening for the first time since she came into my life.
About 40' light north westerly breeze, no top, blazing sunset...

Life is sweet in a Jeep! :0)

Kinda new to the whole "wave @ other Jeepers" thing. I guess the grocery getter Jeeps don't expect a wave? Is it all about the grill as to who gets a wave?

Congrats to you. Life is good in a CJ  Waitng for my turn.

Ride on Brotherjohn! :chug:

Congrats brotherjohn :chug: At least where I live, the Jeep Wave seems to only apply to fellow CJ owners.

It's a little more complicated than that: The Jeep Wave

life is great in a jeep. Had a 70 degree day back in Feb. had the doors off and me and the dog had a nice ride. :chug:

That clears up a lot, I was wondering why Jeepers w/ their top and doors kinda held their head a little low as I passed by. They wouldn't feel as bad if they only knew I don't have a top and doors.

Does anyone know what the law in Indiana is for driving with the windshield down? My girlfriend loves the "wind blown" look.

I think in most states you have to ware safety glasses.

Even if it isn't the law, at least some Lennon glasses are in order. You haven't really felt your man parts squinch up until you get a bug in your eyeball as you're approaching an intersection on a curve behind a school bus.

Spoken like someone who has been there! I got a junebug to the forehead one night going 70 on a four wheeler. That was a joy to dig out of my head. (Man, I've done some dumb stuff before. No helmet!?!?!)

what do you mean dilusional?? That pile of rust on blocks in my field for 20 years is worth every bit of X amount of dollars. IT'S RARE. :D

Danged it! She died on me yesterday evening.
I thought I would take her out farther and get her good and warmed up. Luckily she cut out on me going down hill and I was able coast out of traffic. She would start but as soon as I gave it the gas she flooded and choked on vapor.
I went with this set up

to use my still working coil since a P.O. musta buried the dizzy in mud and packed the fins inside with grime and grit which ate away the casing causing it to be as loose as a clowns pocket.
When I first hooked everything up it reacted the same way, give it gas, choke and die. I pulled the new '83 dizzy and checked the spring holders on the mechadv and one was bent all the way back and one was only half way so I bent the half way one out like the other and she fired right up and ran fine.
When she died this time I thought maybe the springs were getting warm and loosing their "pull to" so I pulled the cap off and let it cool down and tried it again...same thing, give it gas, choke and die. So I pulled the distributor there on the side of the road and tried to bend the spring tabs back a little further. I don't think I budged them but when I put it back in she fired right up and was fine all the way home?
I'm going to try stiffer springs unless someone has a nutter suggestiation.

It sounds like it would run after you'd let it sit for awhile. Could it be vapor-locking?

what color is the spark? If the spark is weak, then it may idle but as soon as you give it gas the increased fuel and compression kill it. Could be aweak coil and a module beginning to break down.

Kudos to Summit Racing, the springs were here the next day, granted they're just 1 state over but still, way to go! I put the new springs on and bent the one tab back where it was figuring I could bend it through the window if needed. I also cleaned the block where the distributor seats and drove around all day yesterday without problem so we'll see I guess.
