Burglar alarm.............

Needless to say last Sunday night someone got into three of our vehicles. It was just change stolen thank goodness. They got into my jeep and the center console was open. Just the winch control cable was in there. Which brings me to ask. I can't lock the jeep for obvious reasons. Anyone ever rig up a burglar alarm on thier jeep? I have some ideas floating around in my head.

I just have soft doors. I don't keep anything valuable in mine, and I have a hidden switch that turns off the fuel pump.

I don't think I would lock the doors on that. If they want. In they will get in, they will just rip the doors off or damage them. Get a good secure storage box for the important stuff.

I once drove an unlockable sports car (Bugeye Sprite). I installed a momentary action, normally closed pushbutton on each door that would sound the horn if the door was opened. You could use a switch that operates an interior light on "normal" cars. A key switch armed and disarmed my simple alarm.

I've been thinking how to use one of those inexpensive driveway alarms to protect my entire parking area with lights, barking dog recording, sounds of gunfire, etc.

Ever since some SOB cut the window on a rag top jeep of mine rather than just unzipping it to steal the speakers, I’ve been giving thought as to how to turn a tub into the equivalent of an electric fence such as the ones used on the farm. Probably not possible without frying the electrical system but could be rather effective particularly up here in the ever wet portion of the Northwest. (Good Grounding) It wouldn’t be enough to kill anyone but I’d bet no one would be back for a second try.

Thats the problem, they leave with your stuff to help them raise the next generation of thieves!

I would think that just keeping the valuables in the house, and installation of the hidden fuel pump or electrical cut-off switch to keep the vehicle in the driveway would be good enough.

My stuff is heavily insured, good thing I'm friends with my insurance agent. He might believe how much I have into the CJ by now since he has helped with a few things on it, I might actually get my money back out if it!

since my jeep isnt road worthy its in the garage. but i always leave my keys in my diesel, had some hood rat try to steal it one night. 4" straight pipe exhaust and an angry 7.3l was all the alarm i needed. called the police (had one in my town luckily) and he tripped and fell as the cop drove to my house...

i still dont know how he tripped. i guess the heavy duty tie rod at kneecap level didnt help things? no idea. i was, speaking with dispatch...

You might want to talk to your insurance buddy about your coverage as knowing the guy who writes the policy is all well and good but he is not the one who decides the size of the check if you have a claim. Often if you have an older vehicle with a bunch of goodies on it you need to consider a “stated” value policy. That way you and the insurance company have an agreement on value before hand should there be a claim.

Done and done. I have friends who went down that road before. One's truck was stolen and torched along with $5k worth of stereo.......the check he got was $4,500. Two things learned from that one; pay the extra for the stated value policy, and don't live in Houston!

Thanks for the advice though, not many folks think to ask about it. What a vehicle is worth to you might not be the same as the insurance company!

Wire,charger,insulators,inverter,deep cycle batteries, solar panel , eractable windmill . It'll be a week or so I'm currently making a claymation video on axle modifications.

I was just thinking about maybe a couple 50Cal ammo boxes, or even 30-06 ammo cans, under the floor above the back axle. I've been under there a good bit lately, installing a new fuel tank. I'll check it tomorrow with a 30Cal ammo can, just to see if it might work. A hidden box would hold my trailer ball hitch and a boat strap until I got back from fishing.
