Hey guys...I am looking to do some upgrades to my AMC 304 . I just bought a Edelbrock Performer intake from a guy on craigslist. So now I'm in the market for a carb...maybe a cam...and some headers. I just want to get a little more pep out of this AMC 304 and a little bit more lope to my idle. I don't want to do a full rebuild...don't have the funds right now. But wondered if I could piece together these items reasonably. Just wondered if you guys have some thoughts on what a good carb combination would be for the intake. Also what would you recommend for cam and headers. It is minimal offroad wheeling...more so street and and little dirt road. My mechanic said he would do any of it...but is not a "jeep" guy so didn't want to offer up opinions on what parts or changes to make. Any help would be appreciated...thanks as always.

Have you tried Bulltear yet?

Bulltear Pro-Parts Forum

I've put in a DUI Distributor, and hooker supper competition headers. Haven't noticed any additional pep etc.

Get a 401 :D:D:D

J/K...

Those guys on Bull tear may be of more assistance with actual engine build stuff.

If you can come back and update this when you hear, because I have been wondering intake and cam choices as well...

Id suggest a cam in the 260-270 range; they should have about 450 lift or so. Thats probably the max those heads can handle.

650cfm is the biggest carb Id run. Im a holley guy and for performance I prefer mechanical secondaries/double pumper.

Thanks guys...i had a buddy give me a holley 650 today that needs a rebuild. Hopefully it will work out for me. Havent seen the carb yet...but if it doesnt have an electric choke...what do i have to do to remedy?

Depending on the carb it may or may not have a choke horn so thats the first issue.

You can buy an electric choke kit pretty cheap or just install a cable.

The main body of the DUI dizzy may well be the exact same import AMC HEI dizzy available for one third the cost.

Either way make sure you are careful with the cam & dizzy gears matching when changing either component in an AMC V8. I usually re-use both of the originals.

As he said, either re-use BOTH old ones, or get both new matching ones.

MSD has matched set, or Bulltear sells them too.
