Alright guys so I've had hell since day one with carburators and this AMC 258 i6 / 4.2l .
Started out with a Carter, which was missing the stepper motor, so I ordered a 2150 from the ebay guy, that done good till it set up for a little over a year due to Transmission going out, once the Transmission was replaced then it didn't want to run right. A buddy of mine had a Holley 2300 that had sit up for about 4-5 years. Put that on and she ran like a top for a couple days, parked it up while I was gone to work for two weeks came back and now it's running like :dung: again.
I picked up a rebuild kit for the 2150 from orileys and plan on tearing it down and rebuilding it.
I haven't ever rebuilt a carb other than a couple chainsaw carbs so my question is.

What's going to be the best way to go about doing this?
I don't have any kind of ultrasonic equipment.

I would assume I need to tear it completely apart and let it soak in something first, then go about scrubbing and rinsing, then spraying it with carb cleaner then blowing it off with air. But that's just a guess

Can some of y'all point me in the right direction by any chance?

If I need to soak it in a solution for a little bit what solution do you recommend and for how long?

I leave out for work in the morning and will be gone for two weeks so I'd like to use that time to get my head wrapped around it before I get back home

Thanks in advance

You should find good info on YouTube for rebuilding the carb. A lot of guys rebuilding their first carb don't set the floats correctly and get into trouble there with the fuel mixture. The stuff I used to clean carbs with isn't legal to use anymore so I just use a spray cleaner or mineral spirits. I remember cleaning solvents were discussed recently on this forum.

Thanks guys for the fast response

How did you get all those 2100 series videos together on YouTube?
I've typed in 2100 and 2150 rebuild and didn't come up with near tht much.
Also when I use to search on YouTube for something it would pull up several videos of things close to what I asked for, now it seems like it might show the video I ask for but the next videos in line will be way off topic

I just went on YouTube and typed rebuilding a mc2100 carb in the search box and that's what came up.

If the fuel in the tank is old, remove and add fresh fuel.

there pretty easy to rebuild all you need are a couple of screw drivers and maybe a few sockets. as for cleaner i use kerosene in a cheap habor freight parts washer. they are really forgiving carbs and really forgiving on first time builders

I used to rebuild carbs for a living..... about 30 years ago.

The air mixture screws - take note of how many turns in they are... that is, how many more turns it takes to bottom them out. If the carb was running descent before you took it apart, that is where you will want to start from with those screws when you put it back together.

A can of carb cleaner with the red straw looking thingy sprayed through each hole is an easy way to do a quick cleaning. A new inline fuel filter too.

When you take the top plate off the main body, use a straight edge or flat surface to check for warpage. Any of that can be fixed with a flat surface and some sand paper, just use the fine stuff so the gasket seals it back up.

I have been confounded, by what just had to be, yet another problem with my carb only to find that my problem was in old and broken vacuum lines. Just a thought.

I had one that I did everything possible to get to run right. No matter what, it wouldn't run right. I finally did a smoke test and discovered that the throttle plate shaft had worn into the carb body and developed a major vacuum leak on both sides where the shaft comes out of the body. I got another carb from a friend, swapped bodies, and the problem was solved.
