I know this could be a can of worms, but what carburetors is everyone running and why? I am running the carter BBD, It runs fine as long as you keep it clean. I found a motor craft 2100 on top of an old AMC 304 . I thinking about swapping. I'll need an adapter. But if there are better alternatives out there well I'll have to do more reading.

My CJ came to me with a Carter YF , then I installed a MC2100 1.08, then a 2150 1.14. Now I'm experimenting with a Barry Grant DEMON 350 2bbl, but I've also got a Holley 390 cfm 4bbl sitting on the shelf that I'm thinking about installing because the DEMON likes to use some gas...

IMHO it really comes down to what you're going to use your CJ for, DD, rocks, mud, etc.

Good point.;) I use mine 50/50 off-road on road so good power and mpg are what I'm looking for. Don't need to over kill the carbration. I know I might have made up my own word.

Not that I'm going to be of any value here...but for what it's worth.

I've got a Holley 850 HP race carb. But I've got a SBC 402 with a rather huge solid roller cam, intake, and heads...she sings (or rather, screams) up to 7000+ rpms quite easily.

I had no real major problems with the carter other than it not liking going up steep hills and being a bit cold natured.

the MC2100 was a target of opportunity at the PYP, it was cheep the kit was cheep the rebuild was a walk in the park and it was very little problem to tune. The biggest problem I had was not getting the throttle plates centered on re assembly, after that it runs like a top. I think it has been a good thing and will be there until I decide it is time to make the change to TBI, just because I think it will be an interesting project.

Just for the Dauntless Buick 225 V6 V6 guys. I believe the majority uses the same as I do for offroad and close to stock engines. The Rochester 2G that it was born with. I did upgrade both off mine with electric chokes. This requires finding a carb with automatic choke(2gc) and swap out air horn and some linkage.Or just use as is .One that I have came from a 1968 jeepster so no worrys there. The four barrel deal is another story and I don't want to go there. Not my area of experience. Mike:cool:

Yeah, imho a 4bbl is just to much carb for a AMC 258 i6 / 4.2l . Maybe a small one for a AMC 304 . I could be wroung though. :)

I have a weber 32/36 and have had no problems with it. I bought it because it was affordable and the only thing I found on eBay at the time. Installation was trouble free. The only mod I had to make was the accelerator pedal cable had to be shortened a little. Simple fix with a lead crimp.

I just replaced the 2g with an MC 2100. The Rochester ran just fine and I might put it back at some point. As far as I can tell so far, they are both good.

That is interesting.Do you have any idea of what the CFM rating is? Should work good those things where about bullet proof and simple .

mike:)

The MC, actually a FOMOCO, is 1.02 venturi. I'm hoping for lowend power and better fuel mileage. 1.02 = 245 CFM. Ford put the 1.08 on the 302, so I thought 1.02 would work on the 225. we'll see. I don't know the CFM on the 2g.

im running a quadrajet on my 360 right now, but its going retarded so i was going to swap it over to a edelbrock carb, was thinking a 660cfm or something along thoes lines, its already got a edelbrock performer intake on it, and put a manual choke on it as well,

buddys FSJ wagoneer is running a 401 with a edelbrock and offroad he loves it,

AMC 304 AMC with Mild Cam. The Summit 4 Barrel works GREAT! No issues, bolt on and go. Electric choke works excellent-no starting issues in sub -freezing weather. The price is ridiculous -can't do much better for a new carb....

Anybody with a Weber 38-38 dgas? Clifford Performance: Weber 38-38 Carb Kit. Click here for details But for the price I don't know.
I am running the 38 DGES on my AMC 258 i6 / 4.2l w/ 4.0 head and a moderate cam. It works well most of the time. It does have a flat spot just above idle. I believe that a larger accelerator pump would help. My plan is to save up and convert to fuel injection in the future.
BTW you can find much better prices if you do some looking. example: Weber K551-38 - Weber 38/38 DGES Carburetor for 72-90 Jeep® with 6 Cylinder (258c.i.) - Quadratec

My AMC 258 i6 / 4.2l has a MC2100/2150 in it's near future. I used to be able to tear down and reassemble one in about 20 min. I love the ease of adjusting them.
