CB Radios

Well an update. I've been digging around for a while and found this Yaesu FT 227R radio. Yeah, didn't know what I was looking at. Met the guy who knew about as much as I did. He was asking $35 for it and he gave it to me for $20 plus a magnetic antenna. So I get home, start the install, hook it to my long SS whip antenna then turmed it on and started seaching. Found some guys talking with each other about computer tech but that was about it. So I didn't understand why it didn't have regular channels on the display so I did some deeper digging to fund out this Yeasu is not considered a cb at all but a 2 meter radio and the display is frequency not channels. I also found out your required to become a licensed Ham radio operator to use it. So went back and just bought a new Uniden cb radio, got me an SWR meter and hookes it all up. Channel 1 and 40 both read 1.6. From what I've read that's pretty good. So I got to keep my SS whip antenna and new cb radio and all tuned and ready to use.
I plan on just keeping the 2 meter radio and may look into becoming a licensed Ham operator. From what I've read, they 2 meter radio is a better radio but not compatible with CB radios. So if your in a group thats using CB radios, this 2 meter radio wouldn't work with them. That would be a disadvantage but may depend on the arwa your in also. There may be other 2 meter radio users around.
