Newbie here guys. I have been searching through the forums but haven't found an answer yet.

I am attempting to replace the bushings on the springs but have run into a snag. The new bushing will not fit into the eyelet of the lead or frame. This is the first time I've worked on the leaf springs and need to know if the steel sleeves need to be removed as well for the new bushing. Thanks.

I have attached pictures pointing out my concern.

Pull the sleeve.
Use silicon grease on the bushings.

The Blazer is pulling the inner bushing in. The CJ outer sleeve is only .o60 thick and hard to catch with a washer to use this method.

To get the outer OEM bushing out if I can't move it with a punch, I'll use a die grinder with a carbide bit an make a groove in the outer bushing sleeve where the end of the spring wraps around and meets itself. The sleeve will crack and then can be tapped out.

Lots of ways to skin a cat. . .:D

Thanks everyone, I have the inner sleeve and old rubber out. My biggest concern was pulling the metal sleeve in the frame. Wasn't sure if I had received the wrong size of new poly bushing or if the outer metal sleeve needed to be removed.

Thnaks
