CJ-5A Title Problems, need help

CJ-5A Title Problems, need help
I wouldn't do a lost title it won't get you anyway except paying for a title you already have. PM me your phone number and a good time to call and I'll tell you how it can be done.

Edit: for the record it completely legal I'm just not up to typing out the steps needed.

I got a couple PM's asking about the process in correcting a title in the state of Washington so I'll post it here.

The process is somewhat similar to what Jon posted although it's not a loss or damaged title process.
With a lost or damaged replacement title you fill out a form, have it notarized, then mail, or take to a vehicle licensing office for a duplicate title.
As I mentioned to the OP in a PM, it's a two step process.
Go to a State Patrol and have them verify the correct vin (on firewall) and fill out the needed paperwork.
Take paperwork the State Patrol gave you to your "quick title" county office.
They will then give you a new title with the correct vin.
You can save a few bucks taking the paperwork to the vehicle licensing office but the quick title office handles a lot of title corrections and it's old hat to them.

Most states are basically the same, I've corrected a few titles, and titled old Jeeps without a title.
I printed the forms I needed off the dmv website, had my friend State Trooper stop by my house to verify the vin and fill out the paperwork I had on hand for him.
Went to the DMV for a new title
As I handed the teller the forms at the dmv she looked at me with the deer in the headlights look and said "I didn't even know we have forms like this".

Go into the DMV expecting them to know nothing concerning old Jeeps, do as much footwork as possibly, have your paperwork in order and the process should go smoothly.

Anyone that buys a used vehicle should "always" check that the title vin matches the vehicle vin. Earlier this year Bill D was kind enough to pickup my 69 CJ5 I told him to check to see if the title vin matched the firewall tag before handing over the cash which he did.

Hope this helps.

Ca. is very similar in this also.

I'd like to also add, if you buy a vehicle where the numbers don't match, or the vin is not correct there is a chance the vehicle could have been stolen.
If it's a stolen vehicle the State Patrol will let you know.
Then your out of a Jeep, and will have to chase the seller for your money back.
On the bright side, maybe the guy who got his Jeep stolen gets it back.

More likely then not it isn't a stolen Jeep, but any vehicle you buy without a matching vin would be a possibility.
