Jeep cj-7 6 cyl 258. 1977
Hi
I want to know if the CJ7 came with 5 speed in the 6 cyl engine or only in the 4 cyl?
thanks

My CJ is a 5 speed with the 6 factory

From your “handle” I assume the CJ in question is a 1977 model year and no, the 1977 CJ did not come from the factory with a 5 speed regardless of engine size. The CJ factory 5 speed started in the 1982 with the T-5 .

The only 5 speed to go into a CJ from the factory was the T-5 . It came with the 4 and 6 cylinder engines from 1982 to 1986.
If you want to put an '82 Transmission onto a '77 strait six you would need the bellhousing and clutch linkage from the '82. Then you would need the Dana 300 Transfer Case that came with the T-5 . The driveshaft lengths would also need to be modified.
It would be a waste of time even if you got the parts for free. The T-5 was amoung the worst transmissions to go into a CJ. Check out these links regarding the T-5 :

And here are all the manual transmissions to go into Jeep CJs:
