CJ-7 Frame

CJ-7 Frame
A AMC 258 i6 / 4.2l is a great engine. Not a lot of difference between it and a AMC 304 when the rubber meets the road.

:agree: ^^^ The AMC 258 i6 / 4.2l has nearly the same HP and torque as the later AMC 304 's with less weight and better mpg'.... if you were to sink that 900 bucks into the AMC 258 i6 / 4.2l you wouldn't notice the difference. Only reason I have a AMC 304 in mine is the PO already swapped one in..... I just ran with what I had. Use your motor mounts and skid plate - should bolt right up. And both frames are set up for NT axles so no difference there.

Me either - but if ha added that 900 bucks to it I doubt it would classify as stock.... :poke: [emoji16]

OK folks been gone for awhile making money for my new toy and frame swap.
It's finally ready for P-U and I will be headed out for it on Monday afternoon. I should have it here set up for cleaning Tuesday. BUT my daughter and grand baby will be here over fathers day weekend so I have to have some down time to clean my house. LOL! There's a few day there then I figure I have to spend time with them. So the week after I should be able to dive in.
I will be posting a list of what I will be ordering this week for the swap so those who have done can chime in with suggestions and vendors.
:notworthy: To the Jeep gods!:chug:

Yes! Already have a jig made up from an old plumbing snake and some small chain to rattle it around on an electric drill as well as an extended wand for a pressure washer.
My top barn doors are 11' to the floor and the frame is 12' so putting in on some blocks and I can lean it against the barn and work down, then turn it around and work from the other end.

I would also like to drill some 1/2" holes on the bottom of the frame before painting it. Where would the best places be and how many. I'm thinking four right at the lowest parts of the frame, two each side????

OK picked up mt frame yesterday and it's home. Hope to start work the beginning of next week. Looks like a new rear bumper/cross member will be in the picture, or take the one off my old frame(in good shape). I want to remove it to get into the frame easier to clean it up plus it's not in the best of condition.

I would 'plumb' out the frame, to make sure it's square and straight before doing anydangthing else.

I had measured across the furthest 2 body mounts and it was perfect, I then measured from the front outer of the rail to the center of the rear pair of body mounts and off by maybe 1/16".
I looked this frame ocer really good this morning and I'm happy, the inside where I can see has only surface rust, no chunks at all.

After cleaning the inside good. I have ordered 3 cans of the Eastwood Internal Frame Coating. (Why is the black $4.00 a can more?) Also a Qt. of Eastwood Rust Encapsulator in Black.

Going with Black Diamond Medium Blasting Abrasives for the outside of the frame.
I called a few locals for prices and was told because of humidity they don't blast this time of the yr. They also wouldn't give a price just $125.00 an hour with no idea how long it would take. So I'll do it myself. After power washing and some wheeling I don't see it taking that long. I've done trailers with much more surface in less then 2-3 hours.

No Vendor recommendations for my list? Ordered the Eastwood products from them. Got my blasting material from Tractor Supply.
