the windshield is often tilted in what may be a strange angle , to line up with the leading edge of the door.

Don't think Chrome, think stainless steel.:D

Do you have doors and do they fit? If they do I would leave it alone. IMO

Looks like pete is just looking to stir up trouble...

The doors can be adjusted by loosening up the hinges so in theory if the windshield had too much lean they could be adjusted to match... I would leave it be for now since everything you got works but this may become an issue later on if you decide to pick up a hard top, the soft top is a little more forgiving with dimensions than a hard top.

Im seeing just a base model. No tach , clock , dash pad or Renegade or Laredo seats.

The padded dash in a CJ was a safety item as a result of Federal actions regardless of trim. In the late 1960s the big thing in auto safety was the injuries caused from steering wheels collapsing in a crash impelling the driver in the chest (usually meant death) plus head injuries caused by the steel dash and knobs used in the day. The hard dash was more likely to crack your head on impact than the soft plastic used today and the metal knobs were known to punch holes in the skull. (Remember that seat belts were not a requirement and even if installed in the vehicle they were only lap belts.) The Fed required changes from the manufactures in the 1970's so Jeep went to the dash pad and the crappy rubber knobs to meet federal regulations. Removing the padded dash and tossing it in the trash was common place.

You bet...
