I got my new Quadretec and 4WD holiday catalogs in the mail yesterday and as I was looking through it seemed CJ suspensions were slim pickins. I also noticed alot of manufacturers not making a 3in suspension. Lots of 2.5in lifts athen jumped to 4in. I have been looking for a good 3in but haven't made any kinda decision yet. Any opinions? Any brands out there off the radar?

Most of the catalogs have forgotten about the cj and focus on the newer jeeps. Almost everyone still makes lifts for the cj though. 3" has never been popular it's almost always went 2,5 and than 4". Black Diamond is one of few the exceptions.
Stay away from the cheap lifts, you get what you pay for when it comes to springs.

if you are stuck on 3 inch then go with a 2 1/2 and then pick up the other 1/2 with either a body lift or shackles

Im not stuck on 3, I guess I always assumed 3in was the standard entry lift. 2.5in seems a little low and 4 seems like more than I want on a cj. Wanting to run 32x11.50 tires, but I guess 33's wouldn't be much of a difference.

2.5 might not be enough..This is just my personal preference but I would probably just go with the 2.5 and then pick up any more if I needed it with a body lift ..then if I wanted another 1/2 or 1 inch I would use shackles..I just never liked lift springs because that extra arch seems to make a lot stiffer ride...My favorite lift is a spring over with stock springs

Seems that I have read about some problems with using extended shackles. Any truth to that? I like the old man emu 2.5in with th springs. Would 32s fit under that on 15x8 rims?

You can usually get away with 1" lift shackles, you will start having caster problems with anything bigger.
What size tires you can run depends on what you are going to do with the jeep. (how much you will be flexing it) as Harley said if it rubs a body lift or shackles or both can be used.

Well my jeep will mainly see unimproved wild life area roads and trails. The occasional low water crossing. Not looking to flex out on rocks. I am opposed to a body lift. I just think it should be all suspension.
