1974 CJ5 - 258 from an 85 CJ7, hopefully soon to be replaced with a FI 4.0 HO from a 96 Cherokee, T-18 tranny, stock brakes, gears & axles (d30f & D44r), hopefully soon to be replaced with wide tracks & disc brakes. Body restored
I have a 1974 CJ5 . Will the windshield glass from 80s Cj5s or CJ7s fit or are they a different size? Local junkyard has a couple 80 - 86 CJ5 & CJ 7s with good glass that I can get for chep but not sure of the glass measurement for the CJ5 or 7 & if they are different

Thanks

The glass shop I took mine to broke three windshields trying to install it. It is a major PITA installing flat glass for some reason.

Huh not sure why a PITA. I helped install the glass I currently have before it got rock damage. It seemed pretty easy to me. It helps that I can get the same guy to help me again. Junkyard wants $40 for the glass. Was hoping other years would fit as hat seems pretty reasonable & I can save money by doing it myself.

Nope--the windshield got streamlined in '76. Through '75 the frame measures 59" at the top. In '76 it was narrowed to 55".

Edit:
I see that the site I linked perpetuates the myth that older and intermediate CJ5s windshields sit at a 90 degree angle to the hood. This is true ONLY when viewing the vehicle from the front--the windshield post is indeed at 90 degrees. But viewed from the side the windshield is angled just like all Jeeps have always been since the beginning of Jeep Time.

I did my CJ7 windshield in about 10 minutes. May have helped that i had the frame off the jeep when I did it.

Did you know the ones on the tub half have nuts on them?

I just found that out myself. Just installed new windshield frame and glass on my 82 CJ7 . Thinking I needed to make adjustment on my hinges I loosened those bolts only to find out the reason things were not lining up properly was that my door hinges are worn out. Now I need to get my grandson over to help since I can't get my hands up there.
