Cj5 or newer jeep build?

Hey guys I'm new on here and I'm honestly hoping someone can give me some advice on my CJ5 , it's a 79 Renegade with a AMC 304 and a three speed, it's got the AMC20 rear end and a thirty up front it's all original and I'm the second owner and it has 83,000 miles on it, and absolutely no rust, its clean! So my dilemma start gutting it for better wheeling or sell it and build a newer series jeep.
P.S. if I did something wrong here correct me please

What kind of wheeling are you talking? If you kept it, what are your build plans?

Unless you go hacking the body up and stretching it, I think the biggest limitation to the CJ5 is going to be the wheelbase. But then again, If you are in flat terrain it could be one of the biggest advantages.

I've made quite a few modifications to my rig to make it much more capable off road, but no hacking/cutting. Everything is bolt on and could be returned to bone stock quite easy. As JP stated, what kind of wheeling are you talking here?

If you want to do some serious off-roading, build from a newer vehicle. You're going to have more aftermarket support, better electronics, better everything.

Considering what I spent on my 76 CJ5 resto-mod, I could have bought a new AEV JK. And had some $$$ left over....

Sounds odd coming from a non purist like me. Wow what is happening to me, I think I'm falling under some kind of jeep spell.

Absolutely. Unmolested, rust free CJ's are becoming a rarity. On the other hand, TJ's can be had pretty cheap these days and a Rubicon version is quite capable off-the-shelf.

Keep it stock! All the compliments I get from mine revolve around how stock it looks. Once my non-stock seats wear out/get ratty, gonna put old school style ones in.

You would be better off doing a few things to restore it somewhat and selling it. Then use that money to mod some other jeep.
