1981 CJ5/258 4.2L I6, Tremec T-176 4-speed, Dana 300, Power Steering, Howell Throttle Body Injection System, Warn Locking Hubs, Warn Rock Crawler front/rear bumper with Tire Swing Carrier, Full Roll Cage, Pro Comp ES9000 shocks
So I was driving my 4 inch lifted CJ5 on a highway going around 55 mph. I was coming up to an green light intersection where a guy taking a left from the suicide lane thought he had enough of a gap to speed across oncoming traffic. By the time he realized he wasn't going to make it, it was too late. He stopped his vehicle almost completely blocking my lane. I had milliseconds to react, and no ABS disc brakes to stop in time

I swerved violently at full speed around the car thinking I was going to flip and/or collide at any moment. By some miracle, my steering was responsive enough to slip around without a scratch on myself or the other car.

I think the whole experience took ten years off my life though. I was simply amazed that my CJ was able to violently swerve around without tipping over. Everything I've heard from Jeep people, including a lot on this forum, was that a CJ5 is a top-heavy deathtrap with it's short track and wheelbase. Well, I experienced that exact scenario that I was told would result in me being upside down in a ditch, but I and my CJ5 are relatively unscathed.

Maybe it's a miracle, maybe it's my James Bond driving skills, or just maybe the CJ5 's aren't as top-heavy as people think they are. Just a thought!

glad to hear you and the cj made it. i think that for the most part yes they dont roll as easily as people say, but. I'm not going to push my luck im still driving like im about to tip.

I agree I don't think they are as bad as made out to be. But I also think a higher power was looking over you. Glad you are ok.

Thanks for the thoughtful words guys. It really was a miracle i got out of that one. It's a relief to know that God is a Jeep lover. :)

It's great that quick employment of your superior driving skill defeated the best effort of God to kill you.

Remember guys, it's 2014 and nobody can thank God for anything without somebody else shoving their inability to simply believe in a higher power down your throat. I for one was hoping that it wouldn't happen here too.

jzak - I most certainly an glad to hear that you escaped your close call. I somewhat agree with you on the subject of jeeps rolling over, but no question about it a jeep has a very high center of gravity and will roll over qquicker than most, it just takes more than some folks think to roll a vehicle over.
