cj5 vs cj7 shocks

I have 80 CJ5 and my son has a 84 CJ7 . He just bought a lift kit that came with new shocks. Will his old shocks fit my CJ5 . Data at autozone says they do not interchange but I can't see why not. anyone?

The front shock towers on the frame are taller for the CJ7 in 1984. Your 80 CJ5 ran the little stubby ones that are welded on. You would need to retrofit those shock towers in order to use them.
