I just ordered the windshield gasket from Morris. First time buying from them. Has others out there had good results with them. And are there other good companies out there that are good to buy jeep parts from. Thanks for any replies.

I have used them several times fast shipping, sometimes I cant find a part on their site so I put in the part # in their search bar and there is the part Im looking for in stock. :D I have bought a lot of parts in the past thru Jeep Parts, Jeep Accessories, & Jeep Tops ? Jeep Wrangler Parts by 4 Wheel Drive Hardware ? Your Jeep Parts Source* and Jeep Parts & Jeep Accessories From The Jeep Parts Experts - Quadratec all 3 of them sell very similar products from the same/similar manufacturers. Before I buy I usually check for free shipping/sales between them

OP here. I found a stock WS frame on CL about an hour away from me in good shape for $100. Well worth it IMHO. I should have gone that route from the beginning.
Anyone want a slightly used repop WS frame? ;)

It's called a chisel stick, when you purchase your glass local they typically give you one, that's were I got mine. Their under a buck if you need to purchase one.

Yes, got them from Six States our distributor, at one time had @ 20 of them.

Are you getting glass that comes already cut for a CJ? Last one I put in took longer to cut the glass than it took to zip it in the frame. I used the broken windshield as a template and cut the windshield out of what was left of a sheet of 4' X 8' tempered glass. Cheaper than ordering a CJ windshield and quicker than ordering one. Most glass shops will have what you need and can cut one out in just a few minutes.

You could do the same if you can make yourself a template out of a "sheet" of cardboard to match the frame opening. Just reduce the outside dimensions enough to account for the gasket thickness. Place the cardboard pattern on the glass, mark it, etch it, burn it and snap off the excess. Won't matter how out of specs the frame is doing it this way.

Good luck!
Third windshield...........That's a bummer for sure :(

I'm having glass custom cut by a local shop. How much gap should there be between the outside edge of the glass and the inside edge of the frame on a 74 CJ5 ?

Mark, this is a six year old thread and I'm glad to see someone using the search function. Next time it would be best just to start a new thread to get the most replies. :)

Just measure the thickness of your seal where the glass goes in an subtract that amount times two. You want to have a tight fit. The glass company should be able to help you if you give them the seal.

Sorry not needed. Just want you to get the most views and replies. Also, I may not of been real clear but measure the cross section thickness where the seal is split between where the windshield and the frame but up together.

It's weird because there's a 1/4 inch gap between the glass and the frame. But there's only maybe a 1/16 inch gap in the seal between where the frame goes in and where the glass goes in, ie, when the seal and the glass are installed in the frame, there's only a 1/16 gap between the two, leaving gaps between the seal and the frame, or places where the glass is only 1/32 or so embedded in the seal. Makes me feel like I have the wrong seal.

The extra space is so when the windshield frame flexes the glass wont bind and crack.

That makes sense, but after I a) stretch the seal around the glass and b) insert the whole thing into the frame, I have gaps between the seal and the frame, in some places 1/8 of an inch, light coming through, etc...

Where did you get the glass? Is it from a template?
Got it from morriss I think. Bought it months ago before I decided to tear the jeep apart.
Got a custom piece cut and installed it today. They cut it within about 1/16 of an inch. Went in ok, but it moves around a little. Not sure if I should try a different seal with the original glass, or shoot some silicone into what I have to see if that doesn't lock it down a bit better.
