Trying to restore 79 CJ7 jeep and have looked everywhere for a frame cross member that attaches to the body and supports the gas tank .Everywhere I look they just show the rear bumper cross member.
I would say it may be easier to fab. I think you are referring to the piece that runs across, in front of the tank and the bolts go through to hold tank skid plate on. If so, it should be easy to pick up a piece of angle iron or steel, drill holes in and weld it up. If you don't weld, take it to a cheap muffler shop and give them $5-20.
I agree with you on making my own ,I have looked everywhere and I guess they do not make replacements.I will borrow brother inlaws mig welder and give it a go.
JC Whitney and Essentials has them. I've considered purchasing one myslelf. You can get pre-drilled ones, or ones without holes. They are pretty inexpensive.
