CJ7 - New Replacement Tub ?'s

CJ7 - New Replacement Tub ?'s
I bought the fiberglass with kevlar, I do some off roading but no cracks but have got a few scratches and you really have to look to see them. The standard fiberglass body does have the Kevlar also in the stress points such as the door and hood hinges and openings but I opted to get the kevlar option just in case if I get into more off roading. I also bought all my hinges from them also. Dana at Shell Valley is a great help if you have any questions.

I forgot that I got the color option, the standard is grey gelcoat but if you order like I did with the color option you DO NOT have to paint it which saved me a ton of time and money.

Thanks for the information. If I decide to go this route I will be buying the same though did...

IMO, a yj to CJ swap was fairly easy. I don't make my living turning wrenches, sanding, or painting. I did the tailgate conversion, used some trim pieces to cover the fuel fill hole on the drivers side, there are ways to get the CJ tub without getting in over your head. The only identifier left of the yj tub on mine is the windshield wiper squirters. That's something I can live with.

The real question is...flour or corn?

Just an update on my Fiberglass Tub.

Used the Raptor Upol kit on the floor. Turned out nice.

Hope to get it bolted on the frame tomorrow.

Just an FYI- The reason Willys-Overland can make a tub that fits so perfectly that they claim only a 45 minute install time is that W-O owns all of the original CJ blue prints. When Chrysler bought Jeep they literary dumped tons of OEM CJ parts (other AMC models too) into the local Toledo landfill as the tax write off outweighed the value of the parts in the minds of the bean counters. As a CJ community most of us would pay double for an OEM part over the off shore aftermarket :dung: we live with today. Chrysler saw no value in blueprints for vehicles that were not longer being produced; fortunately for us O-W did.

So what is the deal on O-W's fiberglass tubs? I there's no info on their websites, and all I've heard here is "they're all the same" - which I don't buy. So, I'm looking for someone who has a O-W fiberglass tub and who was/is happy with the purchase. Also, how much more are we talking as opposed to 4WD or Morris 4x4?

I do like the fact that you can get your tub pre-painted at Shell Valley--but I like that all the mods are done at O-W.

O-W's fiberglass tub? What is an O-W fibeglass tub?

Do you mean a Willys Overland fiberglass tub? I think you are confused. Willys Overland only sells steel tubs (I own one) as far as I know and they do not list any fiberglass products on their site. They call them 'Repli-Tubs.'

Shell Valley NE? Wrong state... :)

Well, I admit to having a few adult beverages before my post last night... but you're right, I was confused about Willy's Overland offering fiberglass tubs. Now moving on with the steel v. fiberglass debate. :)

You should really start a new thread if you want to discuss steele vs fiberglass. Use an apropriate title and I'm sure you'll get many opinions. Might even want to make it a poll... ;)
