I have a 1984 CJ7 that I am restoring and I want to replace both side panels. I have a pretty good idea what I need to do and I’m sure I can figure it out but would rather not reinvent the wheel. I can’t find much on the net showing how to do it. The panels I have are from the cowal all the way back to the rear corner. Anyone have a link showing how to take the old ones off?

no link. but that is a real undertaking. you will have to cut and drill/grind off all the spot welds and fit the new panels before welding back on. if you're tub is truly that bad you would be farther ahead to use a rust free YJ tub and just make a few modifications to make it a CJ tub

If your tub is really bad, the frame is probably bad also. So, don't forget to inspect it.
