86 CJ7 factory stock, tilt wheel, clock, tachometer, am/fm cassette radio, fog lights, power brake, power steering. 4.2, t5 trans, dana 300 transfer case, Track-Loc AMC 20 rear end, hard top with tinted windows, 20 gal fuel tank, chrome wagon wheels with 25,500 miles.
Hi, new to forum and jeeps. I have been looking for a CJ7 for some time now and came across an 86 that has been sitting sense 1993 with only 25000 miles on it. Everything is factory stock except for the strip po painted on it, I'm going to restore it the way it came from the dealer but i can't decide if I should put the 235 75 15 wrangler tires that came on it or put on 31 10.5 15 that look better, but not stock?

:ww: from Texas! Nice CJ you have there.

Someone might move this to the Introductions Section, I don't have that ability personally.:D

Looks like a nice survivor. I envy you West Coast guys. As for the tires Id go with some 31 x 10.5 x 15 Bfg All Terrains. It looks like your springs have held up good and they should fit fine. Id test fit one if you think its going to be close. Maybe use a buddy's spare or pick up one off Craigslist for cheap. That is one nice looking Cj , even with the stripe to nowhere. :)

Nice jeep. Low mileage and already so close to stock, I agree you should keep it close to stock but I would go with slightly larger tires.
Nice find

The BFG A/Ts are the way to go. not just for looks, I remember that set of original tires and swapping ends in a lawn sprinkler puddle on asphalt on a sunny day.

Plan on some 15x8 rims as well. They may not be stock but truth be told, they should have been.:D

Thanks for your replies, I was leaning towards the bigger tires just needed a little push that way. I wasn't looking for a stock jeep to own but couldn't pass up such a rare find and could not bring myself to modify it.

:ww: from Michigan. That is a nice CJ , it looks a like mine. Looking foward to more pictures when you restore it. There is nothing like a stock CJ.

I'm just getting things started on the jeep, first thing I had to do is to smog it and found out it had a recall on it back in 1995 for replacement of PCV harness. Called Chrysler they first told me it was over 18 yrs ago and they couldn't do anything and I ask them how can I smog it, so she put back on hold when she came back on she said they have to take care of the recall. The service writer at the jeep dealer couldn't believe it was there for recall that was 18 yrs ago.

Ooooh, is that a tilt column?

 You liked that to huh? I will never understand Jeep. My Limited is supposed to be the top of the line model. No tilt wheel, no tach , no clock and no a/c. My Laredo has the clock and tach but no power brakes. His Renegade has the clock , tach and tilt wheel. :wtf:

Jeep has tilt wheel, power steering, power brakes, tach, clock, am/fm cassette player, fog lights, tented windows on hardtop, carpeting, chrome wheels and track lock. Missing rear fold and tumble seat and spare tire carrier. The missing seat and spare tire carrier may be in a shed of PO property, will have to let him find it.

Thats a well optioned Renegade . Dealers would let you pretty much add whatever you wanted. I just think that certain models shouldve come standard with some options. Its crazy trying to figure it all out.

A couple things to be wary of. Your track lock differential uses a different gear oil or an additive , I cant remember which. Be careful with those Marchal fog lights as well. The last clean set I saw sold on Ebay went for $250.

My Renegade , no options. How does that happen????

Wait a minute, I do have intermittent wipers.

Thats exactly right. :D
