Build Thread CJ8 to M170 Build (somewhat)
Thanks Pete, the exhaust will be complete on Wednesday.

I think I'm just going to buy s fuel gauge and run that for now. Since the others are not working/who knows after 20+yrs I might just glue the original fuel gauge to 1/8 of a tank and let people look at it an sweat since we ar out in the dessert. :D:D:D:D

After the exhaust then I will need to build some side rock guards and some other things but I want this on the road after 7yrs of scrimping/scraping and getting it together.

OK. I installed the new fuel (SW) gauge. I could not buy this in black so I will paint the chrome. I did not want to paint it until I knew it worked.

I added 3.5 gallons of fuel (tank was empty) and the gauge reads just at the top of the "E" (@ least I know @ "E" I have 3 gallons left :) ).

Below are pictures of the gauge resting w/the key off, and on (w/Jeep running). I'm happy, sender works fine and :) @ least "E" means "E" (well real close for a CJ).

Looking from the drivers seat, camera located @ the turn signal lever and on zoom.

Ok, found out exactly where the antifreeze leak is coming from, the head gasket on the passenger side. :(

Took the CJ8 out for her maiden voyage today. Put about 15 miles on it and she does surely turn some heads. Of course in a small town w/the OD etc, they are probably thinking how many guns does he have in there. :)

Ran well, still some tweaking and finishing up work to do, but its coming along.

I would like to take this time to thank EVERYONE who helped and answered my questions during the building process.

Thanks again,
Jim

P.S. More pics to come for the completion-stay tuned.

Well, I got the plates yesterday.

Still not 100% complete, but getting there.

The wife said when I got the Jeep on the road she was going to get these plates for me as a gift.

Need to paint the rim black

Installed the factory tow hitch. I will replace it when needed, for now, it does what I need it to do.

that is sweet

Ok guys, since one of my tires split I put the spare on (new as of 7-8 yrs ago). Full tread.

Question is, do you like the black rim (camo now but will b black), or the aluminum rim?

OR,

Maybe paint the Alum rim w/green in the circles :) Hum.

P.S. I still have to build my rock guards and paint the doors.

Sticking with the military theme, I would go with either OD or black. Just my 2¢.
