Clocking 3 way fuel filter?

i came across a thread on clocking the filter return port to the 12 O'clock position? if not fuel delivery issues...

I've never clocked the filter return to 12' O clock I usualy put it closer to 9' O clock and never had a problem. I can see where maybe if someone had a problem with air getting into the system, Or vapor lock, that it might help.

I think the reason for having the return at the 12 o'clock position is to keep the gas from draining out back to the tank.

The book I read says 12:00 which makes sense to me as it’s for overflow return to the tank so the higher the better to take out any air that may be in the system.

YES-return line MUST be at 12 O'clock position.

Interesting, what are the symptoms of an incorrectly clocked fuel filter?

Ditto the last 2 comments (#4 & 5). Air and vapor will rise and go out the top, and if the fuel pressure is more than the carb can take the excess is overflowed out the top and back to the tank. Now it doesn't have to be exactly high noon. Anywhere from 11 to 1 will work.

Hesitation would be one of them Tinman.

Surging, hard starting and other fuel related issues, because not enough gas is get'n to the carb.

Good to know. These were some of the things that I had been unable to rectify prior to the engine coming out and the fuel filter return had indeed not been anywhere close to 12 o'clock. I Will be sure and reinstall it correctly and see what happens. Probably one of those things that falls into the same category as different sized heater core hoses.
