Clutch Issues

well me and my jeep were involved in an accident on the interstate last week. 2 vehicles totaled, i changed a blown tire and drove the jeep home . aside from every corner of my jeep being banged up, something is wrong with my clutch. It shifts into all gears fine except reverse. when trying to go from any gear into reverse, it just grinds. sounds like 2 spinning gears grinding on each other. talking with some guys, they tell me i need to adjust my clutch but no one can tell me how to do this. any direction would be greatly appreciated. thanks

I wouldn't immediately think clutch since it shifts fine into all other gears, that should tell you your clutch is still engaging / disengage just fine.

Did you get hit hard enough to bust a motor or tranny mount? How about frame damage, anything bent under there?

everything looks good under there. i dont see any broken mounts or bent anything. was the first thing i checked and have been referenced to that by a few people. it goes into first hard too. i didnt think it was hit hard enough to break something, but it is 30+ years old...

Another thought would be that with the body being pushed around in the accident causing the shifter to hit the Transmission cover before being able to shift all the way into reverse gear. This would involve removing the shifter boot to check shifter travel and see if it is hitting that sheet metal cover.

The body moving could have an effect on you clutch linkage too.

i took some play out of the clutch pedal and it took care of the problem. been driving it for a few weeks now with no issues.
