I need to order a clutch kit soon for my 75 and was looking for recommendations on what to get. I see kits for about $AMC 150 and higher performance kits for around $350. Just wondering what yall's thoughts are?

So far I can not remember anyone having a problem with a stock Borg and Beck clutch from your friendly neighborhood parts store.
I think you can spend more money but just make more work for your left leg.:D

Sachs & Luk replacement sets have good reviews and supply the OEM's, as well.
75 1975 Jeep CJ5 Clutch Kit - Clutch - LUK, Sachs - PartsGeek

I used a Luk factory replacement in a FSJ with a 360 and 37" tires with no issues at all even using the T18A's low first gear.

Check online reviews of your friendly neighborhood parts place's offerings before buying. The Perfection brand set sold at Advance Auto parts, for example, receives bad reviews.

There are two main styles of clutch based on the pressure plate design: The Borg & Beck type has three fingers going to the throw-out bearing. They are said to provide good clamping force but at higher leg pressure and uneven pressure on the disc. The diaphragm style has many thin fingers going to the throw-out bearing. They are said to provide the same holding pressure and apply it more evenly around the disc with at reduced leg force but critics say it actually doesn't provide the same pressure. You will probably find examples of each style for your app. I usually go with a diaphragm type. My clutch knee has been operated on.
