Here's a little update: got the Transmission and tcase out this evening. Looking at the throwout bearing it looks a little worn out. I'm leaning towards doing a new clutch being I'm right there. So here's the debate: what clutch brand is best to run? AMC 258 i6 / 4.2l stock except fuel injected. Jeep T-18 mated to Dana 20 . Detroit kicker in front. LS in the rear. 33s on about. 2-2.5" lift.

I'm looking for a clutch that will last and take the abuse of some heat. No rock crawling but occasional off road use.

I have read about centerforce and some people RAVE about it and others say they are problematic and overkill for a jeep.

Heard LUK is good. NAPA gold is good.

Read zoom is decent and made of Kevlar for heat abuse.

Sooooo.. what are you guys running? What do you recommend? What to stay away from? Thanks all

Have either one of you guys had problems with them heating up while wheeling?

I have been pleased with my LuK clutch. No issues when off roading. The only issue I had was when my Transmission got stuck in 4th gear and I had to go 2 miles to get to a flat spot on the trails to take the top of the Transmission off and fix it. I wore out the clutch pretty well in those two miles. But guess what, I still used it for a year. Just changed it out 2 weeks ago. It still looked good. And the slipping I was getting at take off was primarily due to the glazing on the flywheel. Definitely glad I got another LuK to put in.

Nope-I know how to 'drive' a clutch. :D

I've crawled rocks in Colorado and Moab using the same clutch for the past 2 years. No problems.

Sounds like LUK is what's it's going to be. Does anyone know if napa will have a new pilot bearing for a T-18 by chance?

Pilot bearing is included with the kit. It fit my T-18 .

You might want to remove your old pilot bearing just to make sure to take down to the auto parts for them to match it up. When I put my T-18 in the bearing came with a adapter kit from Advance Adapters.

Sweet thanks guys. Is it necessary to get the flywheel re-surfaced? Or only if it's grooved?

If you already have everything apart, seems like a waste not to have it resurfaced, unless it has already been done recently.

It probably would be a good idea, since you are in it that far. This removes any warpage and check for cracks and the starter ring condition. Make sure you replace the bolts also.

Okay. I'm thinking I'll pull it off today and just look at it and see. Hopefully gunna paint the Transmission and skid while it's out too.

Ali's the shaft input 1-1/16 or 1-1/8? I don't have my dial indicator at home to measure it. I think it's 1-1/16 is the correct one I need

1 1/16" is for the CJ's, 1 1/8" is for the "J" series trucks if I recall correctly.

One big issue with replacing the OEM f'wheel bolts. The OEM are a bit shorter that what can be commonly found. You do NOT want any of the bolt to protrude pass the back of the c'shaft flange.

Can you not reuse flywheel bolts?
