I have a 73 CJ5 with a AMC 304 and i just put a new Water temp gauge in it. I have a electric fan ,so i just turn it on when i start the jeep. My question is how hot should the gauge normally read when it is a operating temp. I have been driving it for a while now before i actually replaced the temp gauge with no probs. But i just wanted a working gauge.

so i will try to flush the system. Could air in the system cause it to do this problem.:wasted:
any tips to get the air out
Filled it back up with the proper mixture of coolant:bounce:And took it for a spin around the block:driving:and the temp went to 250 again
So i say my new gauge i got from a popular place was bad or something ....oh well. I am :bounce:
