Can anyone who has taken their CJ to body shop for painting the entire Jeep share costs. Trying to get a sense for a fair price.

I am planning on getting mine painted this summer. I have several estimates ranging from $2k - $5k. I am in Europe so I expect those prices are high compared to Stateside

I think it depends drastically on what you want in the end.... You want showroom / showroom-plus? Do you wheel with it? Weekend ice-cream mobile? Doesn't matter what a person does with their Jeep, and everyone's pockets are different depths - but knowing what you want and what you do with it will guide you greatly.

Have a very detailed conversation with your shop. I have someone who does it full time and then also at home on the side. His rate his half that of a shop, but we’ve had some disagreement on how deep to go into the paint job. While I never want someone to short cut, sometimes have to remind him this is not a show car. That said, there’s a lot more to prep then a single blast and then primer filler and paint. And today’s paints are expensive. Mine is a basic gm color and it was a $1k for a gallon of base. I’ll prob be in total for $10k, but remember theres a lot of pieces. And I know it’s been blasted multiple times, all seam sealed and appropriate rust repairs.

for a full strip to bare metal and starting over from ground up 10k is not unreasonable

We painted ours for less than $100. But you have to like olive drab LOL.
rattle can. ive done that but it wont hold up for to long

Nope. Mixed rustoleum and rusty metal primer together and sprayed it in a DIY booth outside. So far it has held better than I thought it would. There's a recent pic in the "What did you do to your CJ today".

Maybe a couple of rattle cans of clear coat might help it last longer

It will be best if you let the professionals do it. :)
