Personally its the same old delima on my end. Its a specific use vehicle purchased to tow to the trails with a occasional trip in town to keep things flowing. But as usual feel like if I cant drive it to work or where ever its pointless. I have reservations doing a 65 mile commute, but endless tweeking in the garage and dollars and its getting closer.
Its rough riding, noisy, hot like a bake oven inside with a top, and I have no clue how fast Im really goin cause the speedo is so far off .
What makes one enjoy this mind and body abuse when there's air conditioned, cruse controlled, luxury with tunes a key twist away :chug:

I daily drove my 82 Limited before I sold it. But it wasn't a rough ride like you describe. I am purchasing a Laredo and when I am done it will have everything a newer wrangler has to include fi, 5 speed tranny, ac, and cruise. So I'll definitely be dding it once the build is complete

Almost every job I take will be atleast 70 miles round trip. Last 2 have been between 90-228 miles daily. I drove the jeep once weekly, it is a rough ride to say the least and at 45 mph its time consuming. Further resto and modification I would love to drive it daily when possible. For me ,its knowing I have a piece of American history, something that isn't cookie cutter so to speak. The fact that most people wouldn't endure a quik trip to the post office and we wheel around for hours on trails says something too.Zen!

I love CJs but they are old and even when in good shape don't make good daily drivers. They are noisy and drafty. I have owned a CJ as a daily driver but I now prefer having something else for day to day use. I only use my CJ5 for the trails but I also want it to be street legal.

I dd my 85 but I know its it not a highway cruiser. I use it around town but if I need to go any considerable distance (over 30 miles in one direction) I use a different vehicle.

I could , and I do. Only about 30 miles back and forth to work everyday.

I would and I do! '76 CJ5 gets drove every single day. When the ear plugs are in, frequent weekend get-aways are the norm. Just got back from Cherokee, NC a few weeks ago and I'm headed to the Low Country of SC next month on a yearly hunting trip with my brother, who will be picked up near Anderson, SC before heading toward the coast. (I originate in Franklin, GA near the AL line.)

I have more faith in my 37 year old CJ than I do any of the modern :dung: sitting in the yard! In fact, right now I have a '97 Mustang and a '06 Expedition waiting on me to pull and rebuild their transmissions.

As soon as I get the cam, intake and carb installed on my '77 F150 and back on the road, the Jeep will be splitting DD duty with it.

I do & plan on continuing to. 45 miles a day, 20 of that on the freeway @ 55 mph. 82 CJ7 , GM 151 w/ 4speed, 268,000 original miles & still running strong.

If your commute is long (50+ miles) then you might try something with better MPGs but I drive mine everyday it may be loud but its more fun than some little econo box.
