Dana 300 stuck in low range

I want to start by saying thanks to this site I am nearing completion of my 74 CJ5 project. I may not post a lot but this site has helped me through every step of the way.
I bought the jeep in parts but the PO sated that he had gone through the motor, tranny. and Transfer Case . The motor runs fine and the tranny works now the way it should but the Transfer Case is stuck in low range, I pulled the TC yesterday. It looked like new oil and everything looked good except the fork on the High/Neutral/low shift rod was able to slide freely the length of the rod. It looks like a set screw is used after lining up with a dimple in the shaft. That set screw is not there. I was not able to find the set screw in the pan or in the pail of oil so I am assuming the PO overlooked it when reassembling. It had not been driven until I got it all back together.

So after all of that my question is does anyone know the size and thread count of the set screw and is it a standard or is it hardened for this application?

Thread sizes come pretty much in standard sizes. Since you have a fine American made product it is probably and American standard thread. They are measured by thread diameter and amount of threads per inch. For example a 1/4"-20 thread is measured by 1/4" thread diameter and 20 threads per inch. There are gauges for this stuff and your local hardware guy should be able to help you out. They also come in various hardness grades so don't get anything too soft.
