It has the original I6, 5 speed manual tranny and I know nothing about transfer case and diffs..
If someone is reading this please send me a message about how to figure out these things and I will get it straight
I love my 82 CJ7 , but it's in great shape a no need to tear down. I read through build and teardown threads and want to do the same but mine is too good to do that. So I am constantly looking at Craigslist and other sale areas for deals. Even when i find deals i pass because it would have to be a steal! I have come upon a 64 CJ6 with title supposedly complete. ... torn down for a rebuild so it's in pieces for the incredibly low price of 500 bucks!
This would be a multiple year long project that is beyond my current mechanical capabilities but I'm getting very excited at the possibility of diving into it.
I'm sure my wife is going to object to me taking another garage space for a project that will take years to complete. Still doesn't deter my longing, the CJ6 's are very rare and cool as ****.
Any thoughts from the forum?

I don't know if I can be much help other then happy wife happy life. I think she is the one you need to sell this to.

While I do agree with "happy wife happy life" Ive also found it's easier to ask for forgiveness than permission. That said, if it's her car that will be losing garage space, think long and hard.

Hi,

That incredibly low price of $500 will quickly turn into thousands of dollars and even then will always need something else. I would use the money to make your CJ7 as nice as you can. Better to have one solid Jeep than two half finished ones ( Dont ask me how I know lol) Good luck!

I'm well aware that it would cost quite a bit to get it back in running order. I actually have the cash available if I wanted to do it.
The garage space wouldn't be my wife's! She knows I am a bit jeep crazy.
Ultimately I think I'm going to pass, I went and looked at it yesterday. The tub was carved up so it would either be tons of work to try and piece one together or require a new CJ6 tub which I would be stuck w a xpensive MD Juan. The eng and Transmission were not ideal which would lead me to trying to swap in something else and just the reassembly was beyond my mechanical skills....... a drivetrain swap thrown in would put me way further down a rabbit whole.

I will still keep my eyes out a find a project jeep that suits my ability and budget. (My dream would be a scrambler).

8's usually take quite a stack of cash as well ;)

LOL you got that Jeep bug bad.... I am not even finished with mine and have been dreaming for awhile about how fun it would be to swap a NP435, a Warn Overdrive and a pair of D44s under my uncle's 1944 MB :)

Yes they do. I found one that met my budget. Frame only lasted a few winters before I had to do a swap. But after replacing almost everything, I have a daily driver that leaks oil! And I am very happy about it. ;)

LMAO your further ahead than me im still trying to get the last few parts on my 7 to make it a daily

You will get there. And it will be worth it.

I seriously can’t wait, I have several small things to tie up to get it driving in 2wd
