How about purchasing a Haynes Jeep CJ Repair Manual. On the inside rear cover there is a spark plug deposit comparison chart. Other possibilities can include problems with the carb or the remaining ignition system.

For checking spark plug wires, its sounds weird, but believe it was BajaEdition who recommends everyone start their jeeps from time to time at night with the hood up. You can see sparks very easily if shorting or jumping around anywhere
Your vacuum advance hooked up correctly? On ported vac not manifold vac?
Timing set correctly?

Start with a visual inspection of the tune components:
wires; visual test and spray them with a light mist of water and snap the throttle at the carb manually. Look for shorting wires.

Once those are confirmed good you can move on to other things.
