I just replaced the factory heater core hoses, and lost almost a gallon of coolant in the process. After filling up the radiator again, I tried to burp the system by taking the cap off, and elevating the front end of the CJ. But after about 5 minutes of idling, the coolant level started rising, and almost spilled out of the radiator. I put the cap back on and took her for a short drive. The engine didn't overheat, staying around 180, which is its normal temp.

So my question is do I still need to burp the system, or am I good with just driving it, and topping off coolant in the radiator? Thanks!

I have never "burped" any of my CJs coolant systems. Since the cap is so much higher than the remainder of the coolant system it's basically fill and check as needed.
Since your staying right at the t-stat temperature it sounds good to go. :chug:

Thanks guys for the feedback! I assumed that any air would work itself out eventually, but always good to get a second opinion. 👍
