Hey Guys,

I live in an area where you get really high winds. Every time it's gusting and I open my Bestop soft-top door, the thing acts like a sail, and slams back against the sideview mirror. I then have to open my window and pull the mirror back to it's original position. I have a 4 inch lift, so it's impossible for me to keep a hand on the door, while i'm also lifting myself into the vehicle.

I've done this over a dozen times, so its really getting annoying. Is there any way to stop the door from swinging open like this? Maybe a door strap? Maybe Bestop sells something for soft tops?

Thanks!

I have thought about creating a strap using para cord and attaching it to a metal bar on the door and utilizing the post for the straps of the hard doors.

Dain

Park headed down wind?:D

Leave the doors at home?

Fab up some limiting straps similar to what the hard door CJs have?

1 - take'em off

2 - Hold'em like the rest of us do

3 - Step away from the computer and put on the ol' thinking cap. Even your generation can come up with something. Given the rate of decline I've seen in young people, I'm not so sure the one after yours will be able to do it though.

4 - Here's a thought, reverse the hinges and make suicide doors. :)

Do you actually use your Rear view mirrors? Mine vibrate and move around so much I don't pay them attention. Oh, sure, once or twice a week I adjust'em

Thanks for the help guys! I just bought some buckled straps at ACE hardware. I was able to wrap it around one of the cross bars on the lower door, and attached to other end to my roll bar cage. It's perfect! The door stops right before It would hit the sideview mirror.

Thanks! :)

Any chance you can get a pic? I know when I had my 78 CJ5 the wind would grab the door and slam it all the way against the front fender. I didnt have the mirror to stop it. :)

see, we knew you could do it!! Keep an eye on it to be sure the door does not get bent. Mirrors are a lot cheaper than tops.:D

How do you know what generation he is? People of all ages and skill levels come here to ask questions. While I understand what your saying it can come off as abrasive. We try not to do that here. :)

Im 33, dont know but what I read here. I tend to read more than I type! I come back because of all you other folks and the fact that this site is not full of well anyways. What if there isn't any wind:D:D:D:p

I think you would actually park into the wind to help keep the door closed.

or the drivers door on the leeward side?.:D

You need to move this to the thread joys of owning a cj or you know you own a cj or whatever lol

Sorry for being abrasive. :( my bad.

I knew you could do it and no there's nothing wrong with your generation or any others for that matter. The hard doors come with door stops similar to the ones you describe, I wonder why they don't make'em for soft doors as well. Now there's a worthwhile suggestion for the Best top guys. Add a door stop strap to your soft doors.

Hey Guys!

As requested, here are some pics of my door strap. Hope it helps!
