Eagle graphic on a 1978 CJ5?

My CJ5 used to belong to my Father-in-law. It's a 1978 CJ5 "Levi (Edition) 's" edition. The original color was a light metallic blue and it had the "Renegade " stickers on the hood (lettering on the side and large hood decal).

So my wife and her brother swear there used to be a large eagle sticker/graphic that their Dad bought from the Jeep dealer and put on the hood. He then removed it shortly thereafter (not sure why...). When I got the Jeep it had been sitting in his yard and hadn't run for several years (maybe 6-7 years). The original paint had oxidized and faded along with the Renegade stickers. I never saw any evidence that another sticker was ever on the hood but my wife and her brother swear it was.

Anyone know what they are talking about? Was there an Eagle graphic for CJ's back then? I've searched high and low for a pic but I haven't found it yet.....


My curiosity is killing me!


BTW, it wasn't a Golden Eagle sticker. I already checked that one out

Take a look at this link to Phoenix Graphix.com. They have the license for Jeep decals. The picture in the link does show show some type of bird like figure in the hood.

Your father in law has/had good taste, I always remove any stickers from new vehicles I buy before it's too late and the paint fades around them. The big 4x4 stickers on the back fender of silverados come off the day it comes home, giant birds on the hood of my CJ would get the same.
