55 a little old for this group I guess. I think you have the Ross steering with drag link and bellcrank correct? If I am right concider the effect putting the extra angle on your tie rods with a 2 1/2" lift will do for your steering. If you must have that much lift make sure it's in the springs and not a shackle lift or your steering once again will be real mess to correct, I would also avoid a body lift due to the fact your pedals and steering column are frame mounted.
I would leave a 55 stock myself just because it's a rare bird and pretty darn cool as is.

I wasnt trying to lift it that much. I was going for a softer suspention.
