EFI distributor question

I just purchased an EFI kit off of eBay for my 258. I'm currently running a HEI distributor with the nutter bypass. The new EFI kit I ordered comes with a new distributor that is not HEI and requires you to buy a coil such as the blaster cap. I would prefer to keep my current HEI distributor with the coil mounted on the cap but it does not have the 8 pin plug that connects into the new harness like the distributor that comes with the kit. What have some of you done? I'm nervous about splicing into my new harness and trying to attach my current HEI distributor as it was not cheap.

I think that the distributor that comes with the kit is controlled by the e.f.i. computer. It might be possible to bypass that feature. If you were to contact the manufacturer they might tell you how to do that.
