So I was out last weekend in 95deg temp wheeling and decided to upgrade to an electric fan to keep the rig cooler when crawling over rocks in the sun. So I bought a 1400cfm fan and auto sensor t-stat, all hooked up and works BUT when I tested it in a parking lot (creaping along in the sun) the temp rose to 246deg (fan running) and did not cool , I then hit a tree covered dirt road and creaped along again (temp stayed at 246deg) then I ran it home (hitting 35 to 40 mph) and when I got home it was at 458deg.

What the :dung: is going on?? do I need a higher cfm fan?

O and there is an A/C cooling radiator and small trany coil as well.

OK, nevermind:mad:

I took off the stupid Electric fan and got my money back and I am going with the 180deg. t-stat and clutch fan.

I would have kept the fan and just got the 180 degree t stat.
the temp is not controlled by the fan, it is controlled by the t stat, the fan just cools the radiator, if the system had the ability to drop below 246 and the fan was good enough to do it it would have, the fact that it stayed at 246 shows the fan was ok the stat was limiting the temp, if the fan was not up to the task the temp would have been going up and down. now if the fan could not keep up with the vehicle in motion I think it was a shroud problem, not the fan problem, for some reason it was not sucking the air through the radiator but was leaking it in from somewhere such as if the shroud was missing or a very loose fit. When ever you change a fan to a different system, especially a motor driven to a electric, you need to make sure you get a fan that fits the radiator and has a shroud engineered to work with the fan system, one that allows air to be pulled from anywhere not coming through the radiator, or one that does not utilize the entire radiator area, are going fail really quick. because of the difference in the size , pitch and depth of engine driven shrouds and the average electric fan they do not work, or even share the same design as each other

I did keep the stock shroud on and it came with a pre-set t-stat probe that closed at factory temp (195deg) I agree with the 180deg t-stat but even when I was driving home 1mile+ away it did not lower the temp and when I arrived in my driveway it was at 158deg. (it kept climbing)

I did read about the flx-a-lite kit and saw it come with a complete shroud which makes better sense, It all come down to "you get what you pay for", I tried to get away cheep and it did not work.

Hay thanks for the response though.

no problem, a shroud and fan are a system that work together, not alone, that was the problem, get a system designed for your radiators size and btu rating and it work like a charm

Contour Dual fan from the junkyard and a flexalite variable speed controller. total cost 32 for the fan (junkyard) and 95 for the controller. Keeps my 360 cool in my waggy and the fan pushes 3400 cfm you wont be dissatisfied.
