Howdy. I am new to the site and after reading posts from some of the knowledgable Jeepers out there I need some help. I have an '83 CJ with a Howell fuel injected AMC 258 i6 / 4.2l . I was driving the other day and it just died. It will crank, but no fuel spray out of the injectors.

I recently did a tune up, plugs, cap, rotor, new coil, battery cables, and battery terminals. I have checked all the fuses on the fuse block and the EFI system, all are good.

I called Howell and their Tech Support (Troy) was helpful in trying to diagnose what the issue is. I checked the fuel pump by jumpering the Orange and Red wires on the fuel pump relay and the pump comes on and runs and pumps gas through the system, but still won't fire over.

Replaced the ECM and fuel pump relay and still cranks, but no fuel to the injectors. Just replaced the Ingition pickup on the dizzy and same story.....cranks, but won't fire over.

Anyone have any additional ideas or items I can check. Thank you.

What carb? I had a similar problem and pulled the venturi cluster and discovered that it was blocked by debris. Apparently, I have a gas tank with a lot of debris in it as this has happened several times. I was hoping to run it out of gas some more before pulling the tank so I didn't have to deal with the gas. I've also put a filter in before and after the fuel pump.

That is a good point Thistle, since on an exterior mounted electric fuel pump like Aggie probably has the fuel pretty much gets to the pump by siphoning anyway and a clogged up pick up sock could stop the siphon process. I see where Morris sells a stainless sock that would help here.

The system will not pump gas if the ignition is not working. Make sure you have spark or the pump will not come on.
My did this once when the ICM went out in my HEI.

Ck to be sure you CPS(crank position sensor)is work'n 'rite'.
If it ain't work'n-No signal for the f'pump to work.

The Howell fi conversion does not use a cps. As I recall it operates from the tach signal off the coil.

Your 'rite'-Was think'n of the Mopar unit.
I would be then look'n for the tac-signal.
