I've got a line on what I consider to be my dream Transmission set-up.

....................CJ Bell housing/T-18 /Dana 20 with Terra Low Gears ............ Yes its got the low or compound first gear we like.

Evidently the guy was/is a writer for a four wheel magazine and this was one of his test or article mules. He did the conversion, wrote about it, then pulled it for another set up to write about. He's had it for a few years now with no real interest in it. I know what he wants for the whole thing, my question is what do you guys seriously believe it's worth? I'm just trying to get a feel for the value of this set-up.

We just picked up a T-18 w/6.32 granny low along with a Dana 20 (no tera low) and a AMC 304 bell housing. Knowing how beat up a lot of these T-18 's 1st and reverse gears can be, I asked the seller if I could remove the top cover and look inside. He agreed, and I could not believe my eyes! The inside of the tranny looked like it had just been rebuilt! Not so much as a nick on any of the gears. We promptly purchased everything for $500.00.

We paid around $1,000.00 for the last set of Tera-low gears that we purchased. I guess considering the setup is used, anything in the $1000.00/$1200.00 range give or take, would be a pretty sweet deal. Or maybe we just got the deal of a lifetime with ours! :D Just my 2¢

Since your CJ is very similar to what mine would be with the glaring difference of having 3.31 gears in mine, what do you think of the Terra Low gearing?

My thinking is. Down the road gearing with the 3.31's. Low gearing with the Low range and Terra Low package, with the compound gear waiting in the wings for the serious stuff. Of course the Compound gearing will be available at any time. ... of course it will have twin sticks, do to my clumsiness the pills will be in place.

Frequently the top gears are in decent shape, it's the bottom gear that seems to take the abuse. At least that is where the T-18 ford truck Transmission I had in my first CJ showed some chipping, not much, but some. With the BIG wide gears in a T-18 some edge chips are harmless, at least that's what Transmission people have said to me.

HH-Can't help you with the tranny combo deal.
What I will tell you is the Tera-low 4:1 kit in my Dana 300 t'case. Is one of the best mods I ever did to my Jeep's driveline.
IIRC the TL kit is 3.15:1 for the '20' t'case.
They make a bit more noise as they are straight cut gears. You only hear it in low range.

Love the Tera-low in our 79. Even with the 3.31s, you should have a great crawl ratio. Down in low/low, we are revving around 3000 RPM, and only moving around 3 or 4 MPH. The T-18 we just purchased is destined for the 59 CJ5 . We are not going with the Tera-low initially, I think that the 6.32 along with 4.56 axles should give a good crawl ratio.
Your setup sounds like it will work great for you. Hope that the deal is a good one.

MPB - Your price estimate is close to what he has advertised, within a few hundred dollars. When the money comes in for the sale (or theft) of some land we sold back in NY I'm going to go for it. With this done the CJ will definitely be where I want it to be.

Okay - here's another one. Complete CJ T-18 , bell housing to Transfer Case . Not perfect, some surface and pitting rust on the gears, no idea about the Transfer Case . What would the potential value be with this one?

I lucked out and found my Jeep T-18 with the 6.3 low and a 20 attached to a rebuilt straight 6 for $500 then sold the six for $500 :). Just happened to be browsing craigslist and the guy didn't know what he had.

I would think anywhere from 1000 to 1500 is where it would be in my area.
Ultimately, it's only worth what someone is willing to pay.

That is right in there. I figured the asking price was decent, but not actually knowing is, well not knowing. Now I have something to go on. Thank you.
