Vehicle(s)
'86 CJ7, 258 8:1, 5 speed and probably a D300, not sure yet if axles were changed out or original. Did finally get it home.
Will update as I go.
After buying my '86 CJ7 a few weeks back, I got dispatched out to Oregon (trucking) and couldn't do anything but wait to get home so I could organize the two and a half hour trip to get the Jeep home, mine, my Jeep!

Well, I finally got home two days ago and started to get things done to get it here, and of course everything screwed up cause I only have two days and pffft...off to California.
Great, love my job! (sarcasm!)

Was going to drive it, but murphy, murfette and barkett (dog) plus their kids and a few generic demons decided NOT TODAY BOZO!
So I finally threw in the towel on the Jeep driving plan and just rented a uhaul trailer (hate those things from a truckers point of view).

Ok long story short, wasted most of one day to try and get a temporary set of tags to drive it home with, but that all fell through and nothing was accomplished that day. Two and a half hours back to the house. One sleep and back at it.
Today, I spent the same two and a half hours heading out again, but this time armed with a uhaul trailer.
The Jeep was simply to be put on said trailer, and simply hauled home so I could simply play with it for a half a day and simply go back to work for another three weeks.
Forgot about the new world order.

The owner was out working a changed schedule and said I could pick it up if I thought I could deal with putting it on the trailer.
Cool, he gave me the punch code to get into the garage, all is well.

The battery was toast, a boost wasn't happening for lack of cables and a boost box with no boost and no charger for miles.
I drove for an hour and got a new battery, drove back for an hour and installed the battery, BAM!...it runs. That took the first half of the day left.
Drove it up on the trailer secured it and congratulated myself on a job well done, I thought.

I'm starting to get darked on and the lights don't work anymore on the trailer.
Nothing on uhaul as all of that was good. My wires on the truck were the problem, with most of them looking like new but as brittle as a piece of fried bacon, it took another hour.

After that it went well...weather dropped to about 10*f and things got slower and colder but I made it home, frozen cold and tired, but home.

And there she sits.
Got to get up tomorrow and smell the frozen (roses) and go to work for three weeks, so I can enjoy another two fruitful days playing with my Jeep.

I'll keep you freaking posted,
Beers.

Good to hear you got her home, that seems to happen to me a lot you think oh it will be easy and everything that can go wrong does, I hate u haul as well but they are really the only game in town

Hey Gert,
True,
But this time I must re-iterate it wasn't their problems I had, they were mine alone.
It's like the wild west, the livery dude wants to help you up on your rented horse, but you shoot him anyway because you didn"t really want to get on your horse in the first place (blows smoke from the peacemaker).
The uhaul hatred comes from trucking along and being confronted with a genuine nice person who just cut you off not grasping stopping distances for big trucks with drill rod on, or pipe that will perforate your brain after it found a way out from the straps or chains as you are standing on the brakes, and then pulling into the weigh scale station just in front of you causing a dangerous new world paradox situation wasting time being chased thru the lot by armed people in uniform and irate truck drivers.
And then you see them again each day as they pass you because they break down a lot.

My real problem is that I can only work with a phone and can't upload pics of my favorite pressure relief vehicle.

I have taken Peebucket off my christmas list for being greedy, and now the cell doesn't want to push the buttons I push in the forum.
My psychiatrist says it's because my parents drank a little bit and I need to calm down and get help.

All but one pic of the jeep missed the "gallery" on my phone and are trying to find their way back to virtual reality and I wanted to display it to show my friends here what I bought..
I know I will eventually sit in one of the chairs you guys sit in to spill the beans about your problems so I'm ok with it.
Any advice would be gratefully followed.

Enough for one day,
Happy camping, J.

You are cracking me up...!!!

But seriously, should have addressed the phone issue first. Now your frustration is our frustration. So now we all have to wait around another three weeks while we wait for your psychiatrist prescribed psychotropics to kick in...?!

Here I sit all broken hearted.

Awww, never thought about that Mike, I'll take you with me to the psychoist, maybe your pain can be analyzed and fixed before it's too late lol.
It's true then that real friends suffer with other true friends pains, that brightened up my day!

I'll figure out a way to gitrdone, always do, the time between now and then can be softened with beer, it has been proven that that works and puts the original problems more to the background.

Interesting story there, Eyeball. I look forward to your upcoming updates. Here is an old post that could apply:https://www.jeep-cj.com/forums/f99/what-do-after-getting-cj-home-10146/. The bourbon plan sounds pretty good.
Thanks for the kind words and the link torx, I'll be checking that out, I may already have been there, but I'll recheck thx.
I think I'm going to put the pic I have for it up as an avatar, it's the only thing that works so far or that I know how to do.
Gonna try to do that right now.
I'll be back.

Meant to ask,
When I picked the heap up, I noticed that both doors were hanging open, and upon trying to close them, they don't even come close to striking the posts.
So my question is, are there different doors on CJs and YJ's hardtops?
I believe the owner said he'd bought doors for it, meaning that they could be the wrong ones if wrong ones could be bought. Murphy would know, but he ain't around to ask.
It looks to me that the striker plate pin may be a tad thicker than the locking clasp hole when they are closed.
But the door hanging job is suspect too as the doors do not line up with the actual tub contours of the door holes.

The other problem could be that the tub is fiberglass and may not be accurate to the doors.
Had that problem before with a roadster body.
Worse comes to worst, I can trim, reshape or re-weld, to custom fit the doors to the body/hardtop. Or mount halfies and build frames to fit for canvas and poly windows.

Any one have any idea as to different door shapes? or any advice?
Since I am not planning to use the Jeep in the winter much unless I have to, I could leave it a soft top, although with 3 feet of snow on it. I doubt it will last long.

A hard top with a good heater mod is probably the better Idea, so the doors should be addressed.
I'm just thinking out loud, it's a process to get a move on the next thing to do.
Thanks.

i don't know about the fiber glass part but they should work. Adjustment is on the hinges on doors and body and maybe even the front windshield. I put YJ half doors with soft uppers on mine with soft top

I believe 1980 was the last year of t-handle doors and lever latches.
81 and up paddle including yjs

So my question is, are there different doors on CJs and YJ's hardtops?

It’s my understanding all CJ and YJ doors are interchangeable with regard to their shape related to hard tops. I think door openings may vary slightly with soft tops, but not by much.

When I fitted my hard doors, I placed the hard top first, loosely bolted. Aligned the body halves of the door hinges with a steel rod and snugged down. I taped strips of thin cardboard around the opening, placed the door on the hinges, and loosened the screws in the door half of their hinges. Then I fit the door to the opening, making sure the windshield frame angle was correct. Once the gap was good, lock down door halves of the hinges, and if necessary raise the body halves of the door hinges. That will get you close. Once the door fits, attach and align the latch. Give that a shot.....

Hey Belizean,
I'm definitely going to make the doors fit, whether they like it or not!
I have a spare hardtop coming and will play with that to get what I want it to look like and then mess with the doors after.
I also have a soft top for it with doors and frames, so I can at least have a cover on it for the rainy days while I try and organize my thoughts on shaping the hardtop the way I would like it to look.

Half doors are an option, especially if soft uppers can be fitted, but I don't really love them all that much.
For next winter I want to at least have the heater mod in, and the hardtop and doors sorted out, even though I'm not planning for it to be a snow J.

The Jeep is being eyeballed, prodded and assaulted at the moment to get an Idea of what it needs for certification.
After that I'll get started on that work, and start gathering things for what I want to do, to it.
Pictures are nearing reality, as I've been messing around with ways to get them on here, but the resizer I downloaded, doesn't allow for the right size, nor for the right extention, so please hang in, I am documenting everything I can.
Cheers.

I don't blame you at all for wanting a hard top, with snow and all that weather. We only see a couple of weeks of winter here. 50 weeks of no top except the bikini top.

Cool shu, that's intel I need.

Gonna follow that bit of input soon as it gets home and I get home and see where it'll get me.
Your reply makes me think I'm gonna go over and throw buddy's hog out of his garage and park my Jeep in it to try and do that, freaking cold out!
Well, his hog and mine can smootch it up in my trailer.

And the windshield angle/gap being right, meaning by moving the door so it matches as best as can be done or does the window need adjustment some how?
Can't see that but you never know.
Not an expert yet lol.
I'm happy with this reply though, you done it before so, you da man!

When I went from soft doors with soft top, to 1/2 steel door and soft uppers I had to adjust my front windshield slightly forward to getting the doors to close correctly

That hurt! lol.

That hurt! lol.

Truth be told, 26 weeks of summer and 24 weeks of spring and fall can get old until that 2 weeks of winter hits. :)
